Reading The Map: Terrain Tricks In Mobile Strategy

A lot of players treat the map in a strategy game as scenery. It isn't. In Tidehold Command and games like it, the terrain you fight on quietly changes the math of every engagement.

High ground is the big one. Units placed above their enemies usually hit harder or dodge more, and forcing an opponent to attack uphill can flip a fight you'd lose on flat ground. Before you commit, ask whether there's a ridge or wall you can fight from instead.

Chokepoints let a small force punch above its weight. If you can funnel a larger army into a narrow pass, you fight them a few at a time instead of all at once. We've held lines with half the numbers just by picking where the clash happened.

Supply and movement matter too. Cutting a road, blocking a bridge, or simply making the enemy walk the long way buys you turns to prepare. Slow the enemy, speed yourself, and let the map do part of the work. Once you start scanning terrain first and units second, your win rate climbs.
