Getting Comfortable With Drift-Boost In Arcade Racers
Arcade racers like Nitro Canyon live and die on the drift-boost loop, and it took us longer than we'd like to admit to stop fighting it. The instinct is to brake before every corner. Don't. In these games the drift is your brake, your turn, and your speed boost all in one.
Enter the corner a hair wider than feels right, tap the drift, and let the back end slide through the apex. As you exit, the accumulated boost fires you down the next straight. The first dozen corners will feel sloppy. Then it clicks and you'll wonder how you ever raced without it.
Chaining is where the real time savings live. On tracks with linked corners, ending one drift lined up for the next keeps your boost topping off continuously. We shaved whole seconds off lap times just by connecting drifts instead of resetting between them.
And resist the urge to hold boost the moment you have it. Save it for the long straights where it compounds. A well-timed boost out of the final corner wins more races than blowing it all on the opening stretch.
